For You page redesign

Data points be considered

The old card design had 12 data points being displayed. It communicated to the user which option to buy at what price and when.

But the information in the card is placed in two columns with no hierarchy. Thus making it very difficult for the user to digest.

The card had to be redesigned to accommodate all data points while making more intuitive.

Important Data points

Recommendation Name

Date and time of post

Whatsapp alert CTA

Stock to buy with LTP

Entry price

Exit price

Stoploss

Money to invest

Expected profit

Trader’s Name

Trader’s accuracy

Trade insights

The first context given to the user should be the name of the option and it’s last traded price.

Bucket 2

Entry Price

Exit Price

Stoploss

Trading Strategy

Entry Price, Exit Price and stoploss should be associated together so that the reader can quickly scan through in a glance without having to search

Bucket 3

Money to Invest

Expected profit

Investment & returns

Money required to be invested and profit expected make sense to go together after the user has gone though the strategy.

Bucket 4

Trader’s Name

Trader’s information

Entry Price, Exit Price and stoploss should be associated together so that the reader can quickly scan through in a glance without having to search

How to incentivize users to share their trades?

How to incentivize users to share their trades?

The best way to do this is by gamifying the experience and having ranking lists and contests.

Introduce follower counts and likes for user validation.

2

What are the most important data points for a traders card?

What are the most important data points for a traders card?

Study the most important data points people reference to evaluate a good trade/trader.

Establish a hierarchy

3

How do I arrange the cards in a non monotonous way?

How do I arrange the cards in a non monotonous way?

Could include a vertical scroll feed, horizontal carousels, swipeable cards, progressive disclosure, etc.

Most important data points to evaluate a trade/trader

It was important to categorize data points into buckets based on their relevance to each other and the sequence of reading that would most benefit the user.

Reason for choosing Total invested

User’s will have a reference of how much money the trader has invested which can indicate how much the trader believes in his trading skills. More money invested will increase confidence in the user to follow the trader.

Reason for choosing Net P/L and %

The data point gives the user a quick glimpse of the trader’s total active portfolio

Reason for choosing Win: Loss Ratio

User gets to know how often the trader makes a winning trade compared with his losses

Important Data points

Trader Name

Number of trades

Accuracy

Number of Followers

Follow and Alert CTA

Total invested

Net P/L and %

Win/ Loss ratio

Special badges

Introducing Ranked lists

A horizontal carousel of ranked lists with the week’s leaders on highest Accuracy, Highest Net profit %, Largest profit, etc. This gamifies the experience for traders and incentivizes them to post their trades. It allows increases awareness for users and helps in discovery of ideas, strategies, etc.

A horizontal carousel ranked lists gamifies the experience and gives a competitive incentive to make good trades.

Multiple ranked lists measured with different parameters give the users a wide variety of information about traders

Only Profit and Profit % are shown in GREEN to maintain consistency across the app.

Final redesigned ‘Traders’ page

  • Introduced a horizontal carousel with gamified ranking lists to incentivize traders

  • Included a search bar so users can looks for a specific trader they like

  • Trader profile cards are redesigned to include Number of trades, Followers and Accuracy %.

  • Users can click the card and explore more details about the trader.

Key takeaways

Challenges

  • Working with a 24 hour time constraint led me to be quick and agile with coming up with ideas and researching topics

  • It was challenging to determine the hierarchy of data points without time for proper research. So I used the internet and did hallway testing with the people around me.

  • Since the app was already live, it was a challenge to integrate new features without drastically changing the look and feel of the interface.

Learnings

  • Organizing data that is relevant for the user in an easy way to consume is critical for the overall user experience.

  • There are many ways to solve a UX problem, often with tried and tested solutions like gamified experiences. It is upto you to make the right udgement on what to use.
